The dress is the piece of a woman's wardrobe that circulates best second-hand, because it is often worn occasionally rather than every day: you regularly find pieces that have been used very little. That does not mean skipping three checks. The back fastening first, zip or buttons, which is the main stress point and the first to give way. Then the waist seams, where the garment works hardest. And on a lined piece, the lining: if it has shrunk differently from the outer fabric, the hem twists, and that cannot be corrected. On fluid fabrics - viscose, silk, light blends - tiny snags and pulled threads only show against the light, never from the front: you need to hold the dress up to the light. Sizing varies a lot between brands, with several numbering from 0 to 4 rather than using letters.
