Hugo Boss is first and foremost a tailoring house, and that is what makes it interesting second-hand: a blazer or a shirt from the brand is built with finishes you do not find at the entry level - clean linings, neat buttonholes, proper interfacing. The brand runs several lines whose cuts differ markedly, BOSS for the main wardrobe and HUGO for a narrower silhouette, and second-hand mixes them. The sizing follows European conventions, with numbered sizes on suits and jackets: a 50 is roughly an L. On a pre-owned piece, what matters most happens at the stress points: the shoulder seams of a blazer, the state of the lining under the arms, and on shirts the collar points and the cuffs. A lining that has come unstitched can be repaired; fabric made shiny by an iron that was too hot does not come back.
