Diesel is an Italian brand whose identity rests on treated denim: strong washes, worked distressing effects, assertive cuts. That makes judging a pre-owned piece a little particular - on a pair of Diesel jeans, wear can be original, and you have to tell the intended effect from the real start of a hole. The test is simple: a factory wash is clean and symmetrical, real wear is irregular and the fabric there has thinned. The sizing is fairly narrow and the models carry names rather than numbers, which makes the label essential for knowing the cut. On a pre-owned piece, look at the crotch and the pocket bags against the light, the state of the rivets and belt loops, and on stretch denim the spring of the elastane, which never comes back once lost.
