Fila is an Italian brand born from textiles, which moved into sport in the 1970s, and its codes from that era - the stylised F, the blue and red bands - are widely reissued today. That calls for a little attention second-hand: a recent reissue and a period piece sometimes share the same colours without having the same construction, and the label is the only reliable clue. Older pieces run wide and short; recent production is more fitted, and the brand gives European sizes. On a pre-owned piece, the sensitive points are typical of the sportswear of that period: the contrast colour bands, which may have bled onto a light background, the waist and cuff elastics, and the fastenings. On shiny synthetic fabrics, an area made glossy by rubbing cannot be rescued.
