Maje is a French brand with a carefully worked womenswear wardrobe, recognisable by its details - embroidery, cut-outs, gold buttons - and a slim silhouette. Its pieces resell well because they stay identifiable without going out of fashion, and because the fabrics used are a notch above the mass market. Sizing is the main point to watch: the cuts are distinctly narrow, particularly at the shoulders and armholes, and it is not unusual to need a size up from your usual one. Sizes are often numbered from 0 to 4 rather than given in letters, a 1 being roughly an S and a 2 an M. On a pre-owned piece, check the trims and buttons, often specific and impossible to replace like for like, as well as fine knits against the light.
