Pierre Cardin holds a particular place in second-hand: the house licensed its name widely from the 1970s onwards, so under this label you find pieces of very different quality, from mass-market ready-to-wear to genuinely well-built clothes. The label therefore needs reading carefully: the country of manufacture and the composition say more than the name. Older pieces, notably shirts and jackets from the 1970s and 1980s, have strong cuts and wide collars that are exactly what people look for today. The sizing follows European conventions, with numbered sizes on jackets and suits. On a pre-owned piece, check the stress points: shoulder seams, lining under the arms, and on shirts the collar points. On synthetic pieces from past decades, make sure no area has been made shiny by rubbing: that is irreversible.
