Second-hand Saint James
2 pieces available, from S to L, mostly in very good condition, at €29.
Saint James is a Normandy brand born from sailors' knitwear, and its emblematic product - the heavy cotton Breton top - has been made on the same principle for more than a century. That makes it a particularly relevant piece second-hand: the knit is dense, it tightens in the wash rather than stretching, and an old piece is often sturdier than a new entry-level knit. The cut is straight and follows French sizes, with historically roomy cuts; recent models are more fitted. On a pre-owned piece, check the ribbed edges of the collar and cuffs, which last a long time but eventually loosen, then look for moth damage in the inside seams - wool and heavy cotton are vulnerable to it, and it does not show on the surface.
