Shein is a mass-market brand whose pieces circulate massively second-hand, often worn very little. That is what makes them interesting to hunt for: you regularly find items in almost new condition. It does call for more attention than elsewhere to two things. The first is the composition: the fabrics are mostly synthetic, which has concrete consequences in use - they mark less but hold on to odours more, and an area made shiny by rubbing cannot be rescued. The second is the sizing, given in Asian sizes on part of the production and therefore smaller than the European equivalent; here the flat measurements are more reliable than the label. On a pre-owned piece, check the assembly seams, often light, the fastenings, and the state of glued or heat-applied embellishments, which come off in the wash.
