adidas sweatshirts can be dated precisely, and that is what makes their second-hand market easy to read: the trefoil points to the Originals line, the three-bar logo to performance. Older Originals pieces run wide and short, with raglan sleeves; recent production is much more fitted, for the same size. That is the point to check before anything else. On a pre-owned piece, the ribbed edges - cuffs, hem, neckline - lose their spring before the fleece itself suffers: a sweatshirt whose hem no longer holds looks finished while the body is intact. Then check the flock print, which cracks where embroidery holds, then the zips along their whole run, often oversized and expensive to replace.
