The Lacoste polo is the piece that made the brand, and it is also the one where second-hand makes the most sense: the cotton piqué used on older production is thicker than that of today's basics, and a twenty-year-old polo that has been properly cared for often holds its collar better than a new entry-level one. The size system is the first trap: Lacoste numbers from 2 to 7, a 4 is an M, a 5 an L, a 6 an XL, and models from before 2010 run larger for the same number. The second trap is the cut: the brand introduced slim versions that do not hang like the historic model. On a pre-owned piece, the real condition is judged at the collar - if it ripples or the points curl up, that is irreversible - then at the embroidered crocodile, where a loose thread gives away washes that were too hot, and finally at the underarms, which mark before the rest of the garment.
