Lacoste shirts are less well known than the polos but follow the same construction logic: fabrics that hold up well and consistent finishes, which gives them a real lifespan second-hand. The size system is still the main trap - the brand numbers from 2 to 7, a 4 being an M, a 5 an L - and older pieces run larger for the same number. On a pre-owned shirt, look at the point and fold of the collar, the edge of the cuffs and the fabric around the top button: these are the friction areas, and fabric that has thinned there is permanent. Then check the crocodile embroidery, where a loose thread signals washes that were too hot, and on a light-coloured shirt the colour under the arms.
